Think Ink!!! Just a reminder that the Future Teachers' Club is collecting used printer ink cartridges. There is a yellow box in the mailroom to put them into.
The Future Teachers' Club gives students who are interested in becoming teachers, the opportunity to explore teaching as a career. Many of the students visit elementary schools in East Hartford six times a year for a full day on a space available basis. During that time they read to children, tutor them, help teachers create bulletin boards, correct papers, give spelling tests, help with lunch and recess, help children learn to use computers, and teach lessons they develop, with guidance from the teacher. During the monthly, after school club meetings, students discuss discipline, lesson planning, course selection and college planning. Guest speakers share information about other volunteer opportunites, teaching techniques and other areas of interest. The club visits universities for tours and discussions with representatives of the School of Education and attend a variety of conferences designed for students considering a career in education.
Summer programs sponsored by the Capital Region Education Council, Eastern Connecticut State University and Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity are available for students interested in a teaching career. These programs enable students to experience residential campus life and earn college credit while still in high school.
