EHPS Theory of Action #2:  Build a Rich and Vibrant Learning Culture

Big hornet program

Unfortunately our snow days have impacted our first meeting with the Little Hornets their mentors. However it has been rescheduled for Friday, January 26th during Connections time in the lecture hall. The Big Hornets will have breakfast with their Little Hornet and complete a questionnaire to get to know one another. Our event for February will be a motivational speaker on building and achieving life goals.

school connect

This month our Connections Council staff role modeled “Speed Rabbit” for our 9th grade advisors. This activity will be used in January.

Our staff groups met on January 3rd to review this month’s School Connect activities:

10th grade- Coping with Stress

11th grade – Thinking about Life after High School

12th grade- Motivating Yourself & Moving Forward

service learning

Exciting new opportunities for community outreach are ready and waiting. Currently, students can speed up the winter months by volunteering at the Hall of Fame bowling Alley; handicap bowling hour is every Friday night! Students can also sign up to volunteer at Goodwin College’s annual Winter Kids’ Fest. In addition, helpers are needed for childcare during Adult Education classes at New Covenant Church. Interested? Details are available through connections flyers and with Ms. Cote in guidance.

student leadership

In January, 18 Connections + students facilitated short activities for the 450 8th grade visiting students. These leaders volunteered their time after exams to help the future 9th graders feel more comfortable with their upcoming transition to the high school. After the activities our students led a Q & A to flush out some of the fears or questions they may have about EHHS.

student council

Where did you study for exams?  EHHS StuCo hosted Cookies, Cocoa and Cram, a quiet study for those catch up on work or study. Members of the National Honor Society offered peer tutoring and some staff met with their students in study groups.  In the 3 days of CCC, there were 188 students who remained after exams for some Cookies, Cocoa and Cramming. A big thanks to Ms. Edmonds and her library staff and Mrs. Gay for providing baked goods. Next event - Mr. EHHS on 2-1-18.
