Grade 11 Courses

Students planning to attend four-year college (e.g. University of Connecticut) must select Honors/A.P. U.S. History or College Prep. U.S. History. Students planning to attend a two-year college (e.g. MCC) must select Post-Secondary U.S. History.

United States History - AP
Full Year 1/2 cred./sem.
Code: 535
Prerequisite: Recommendation of grade 10 social studies teacher and/or Department Head. Students will be required to complete a summer project due on the first day of class.
Description: The course is designed for students intending to attend a four-year college or university. It will include in-depth study of the social, political, and economic development of the United States, concentrating on those aspects necessary to understand contemporary society. The model recommended for students planning to take the Advanced Placement Examination will be followed.

United States History - College Prep
Full Year 1/2 credit/sem.

Prerequisite: Completion of 9/10 requirements. Students will be required to complete a summer project due on the first day of school.
Description: The course is designed for students intending to pursue further education in a four year college or university. This is a study of social, political, economic development of the United States, focusing on events necessary to understand modern society.

United States History - Post-Secondary

Description: The course is designed for students intending to attend a two year program after high school. Special emphasis is placed on topics necessary to understand present problems and the meaning of good citizenship.
