Biology, Freshman-Honors

Prerequisite: Grade 9 students in the IDEA Program.
Description : This course offers qualified freshmen an opportunity to study the natural world using the skills of scientific methodology. Topics explored in depth will include (a) cell biology, (b) genetics and gene mutation, (c) biotechnology. (d) evolution and the origin of life, and (e) homeostatic mechanisms in vertebrates. Laboratory investigations will e an integral part of this course. In addition, opportunities for independent laboratory work will be made available to the student. Students in this course are expected to take Sophomore Chemistry in grade 10.

College Science

Prerequisite:    Grade 9 students.
Description : This course includes the topics reactions and interactions, sound and light, structure and evolvement of Earth and the universe, and matter and energy. Students enhance their skills in collecting and analyz¬ing data and graphing laboratory experimentations and in-depth written lab reports through extended laboratory periods. Content and Core Perfor¬mance activities are incorporated throughout the year to prepare students for the Grade 10 April CAPT test.

Prerequisite:    Grade 9 students. Each semester course carries a 1/2 credit.
Description : This course emphasized Earth Science studies including oceans, atmosphere, climate, and weather. Also included is cycling of energy  and matter and conservation of Earth’s resources. This course includes laboratory activities and demonstrations and other problem-solving investigations. Content and Core Performance activities are incor¬porated throughout the year to prepare students for the Grade 10 April CAPT test.
