Home of the Norris Pandas

To deliver a high quality learning experience for every child, every day.

Message From Ed Orszulak, phd.

Dear Norris Families,

I sincerely hope that you have all enjoyed a terrific Holiday Season!  We are moving full speed through the winter months and it's hard to believe we're already well past the half way mark of the school year.  That said, I appreciate the family focus on attendance.  We have seen steady improvement due to family cooperation and the special emphasis on getting the most out of the school year experience with regular attendance!  I am also very happy with the work of our students who continue to exhibit tremendous dedication to their studies.  Our hallways are filled with their academic work and artistic projects. Our classrooms are buzzing with a sustained focus on reading, writing, mathematics, social/emotional learning and myriad other activities and events.  Soon we will be visited by researchers from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. These researchers are working with educational professionals from the University of Connecticut as our school has been chosen to participate in an important study regarding effective and timely support of children through our SRBI (Scientific Research Based Intervention) process. We are also working closely with students from St. Joseph's College who are planning to work with our students with special needs. These connections with Colleges and universities are wonderful ways to expand our own expertise and build our capacities to deliver a high quality education to every child ...everyday! This is truly an extraordinary time to be a Norris Panda!

A few dates to keep in mind are our Parent Literacy Evenings...January 30th, February 27th and March 27th.  These evenings will start with Pizza in our cafeteria at 6:00 PM and then we will have focused discussion and instruction on helping your child improve in the area of literacy until 7:30 PM.  For those who attend there will be a free drawing for an iPad and gift certificate from Stop and Shop! These evenings are sponsored by the Commission on Children and "The Hill for Literacy" along with our District Administration (Mrs. Cynthia Ritchie, Assistant Superintendent of Schools), and our Family Community Liaison (Mrs. Maritza Rivera). We are very thankful for their support! There are  many more exciting activities planned and those dates will be out shortly.  Please check with your children for announcements and Flyers.

I hope you all enjoy these wintry days ahead, and on behalf of all of us here at Norris ...Thank you very much for your help and support!

Ed Orszulak, Ph. D.
