The IB program was implemented within East Hartford High School in the fall of 1999 under the guidance of Mr. Michael Abelon. The program was relocated in May 2003 to a new facility specifically built to meet the needs of the program. Michael Abelon was the first principal of CIBA. With great sadness the CIBA community mourned Mr. Abelon's passing in 2005. In 2006 CIBA was recognized as a Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education. In 2009 Magnet Schools of America recognized CIBA as a magnet school of excellence, and earned the distinction as top secondary magnet school in the country.
Administrative Information

CIBA also has a Governing Committee that is comprised of Board of Education representatives from each of the participating school districts.
