Parents

Parents play an extremely important role at CIBA. In addition to supporting your CIBA student, ensuring that s/he gets enough sleep, budgets his/her time for assignments, and gets to school on time, we need parents to be involved in the decision-making processes at the school. As a school of choice, CIBA needs parent involvement. The best way to do this is through active participation in the CIBA Parent Advisory Council (PAC). The PAC provides social and cultural opportunities for our students, scholarships and general events for the entire school, such as the PAC Pizza Party on the Patio for the entire school to welcome everyone back.

We also need parents to serve on our school’s Safe School Climate Committee, Building Committee and policy-writing committees as we implement the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) in grades 9 and 10 (Special Needs Policy, Language Policy, and Assessment Policy). Please contact the main office to volunteer to serve on one of these committees.

This year, we hope to have more parents spend time in our building.  In order to foster more parental involvement for 2016-2017, we are continuing the initiatives we started last year.

 1. Have lunch with your student

We invite every CIBA parent to have lunch at least ONCE with his or her child during that child’s regularly scheduled lunch. This will allow parents to get to know their student’s classmates and will assist us by having an additional adult in the café.

2. Shadow your student

We invite parents to spend an entire day attending classes with their students. This is a great way to see what your child is learning. Please call Ms. Dolan to make an appointment to shadow.

 3. Volunteer

CIBA is always in need of extra adults to volunteer for such things as chaperoning field trips, helping in the library, and especially, helping to invigilate IB exams (although not exams for which your own student is sitting). This is an excellent opportunity to learn what the International Baccalaureate is about.

June 2016

Dear CIBA Families:

The CIBA Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meets the first Tuesday of each month from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM. All parents and guardians are welcome and urged to attend -- if you have a student at CIBA, you are automatically a member.

The PAC's mission is to contribute to the positive academic and social experience for our students. At the PAC meetings, parents learn about the special demands of the IB curriculum, and discuss ways to support the school community. The meetings are interesting and fun, and are always held to one hour.

The PAC meeting minutes are available on line at the CIBA website. Please like us on Facebook: CIBA PAC for current notices and important information.

Your PAC officers for the 2016-17 school year are:

Alicia Merza, President: alicia@merza.org, 860-895-8892

Bea White, Vice President: china2xmomma@gmail.com

Sandy Reaves, Treasurer: spai94@yahoo.com

Laura Duprey, Secretary: michaelduprey@comcast.net

Please go to https://www.remind.com/join/cibap and enter your cell phone number so that the PAC can reach you!

 Sincerely,

Alicia Merza
