The Connecticut IB Academy Mission Statement

The  Connecticut IB Academy promotes academic excellence and social development through the IB learner profile and rigorous, student-centered learning experiences. By fostering international mindedness, students are empowered to consider diverse perspectives and make a difference in the world through service and action.

Welcome and welcome back to the 2016-2017 academic year at the Connecticut IB Academy, an International Baccalaureate World School©.  Each year, I look forward to welcoming our incoming students and their families and welcoming back our returning students.

CIBA is a community of students, parents, teachers and staff with a growth mindset and a strong tradition of academic achievement, and service.   We have much to celebrate from 2015-16 – once again being named the Number One High School in Connecticut by both The Washington Post and U.S. News and World Report, another year with a 100% graduation rate, new staff members, new family members among our staff and a great student community.  We also all have much work ahead as we strive for excellence.

For the 2016-17 academic year, we have many exciting initiatives. We will be submitting our application for full authorization to offer the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme® (IB-MYP) in grades nine and ten to better prepare our students for success in our established International Baccalaureate Diploma Program® (IB-DP).  This means that 100% of our students will be in a recognized International Baccalaureate program.

We will be engaged in the mandatory reauthorization self-study during the 2016-17 academic year to maintain our authorization to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

We will continue to implement and strengthen the IB “Approaches to Learning,” a strong “skills for success” model across all grades to help students better learn how to learn and to exemplify the attributes of the IB learner profile.

We have strengthened our IB-DP offerings by offering most of our classes at the SL AND HL level and introducing a new IB-DP Group Three course called Internet Technology in a Global Society (ITGS). We have a full two-year sequence of three DP science courses: DP Biology (SL/HL); DP Chemistry (SL/HL) and DP Sports, Exercise and Health Sciences (SL until next year, when we will offer it at the SL/HL levels for 11th graders.
